Speaking of a Scrum Master, let’s understand first, what exactly is a Scrum Master? A Scrum Master is a facilitator who helps ensure that the Scrum team sticks to the agreed-upon processes. In addition, the Scrum Master skillfully removes hurdles and disruptions that may impede the team’s ability to meet goals and serves as the link between the Scrum team and people or teams outside of the Scrum team.

Check out the following top five roles and responsibilities of a Scrum Master below:

Amidst the title „Master,“ the Scrum Master is not in charge of the operation or the development team. A Scrum Master collaborates with the Product Owner and the Scrum team to enhance and improve processes where appropriate.

1.   Training the team members

The Scrum Master ensures that team members have received sufficient training and understand Agile processes. The Scrum Master also ensures that team members understand their role and responsibilities. Furthermore he makes sure that all team members follow the defined processes, have a sense of Project Ownership and and manage themself.

2.   Organization of daily meetings

The daily meeting is hosted by the Scrum Master, who tracks the team progress and notes any difficulties that may prevent the team from accomplishing tasks. The Scrum Master make sure that all team members, such as those working remotely, can attend and take part in the daily meeting. He also ensure that the meeting remains focused and finish on time.

3.   Support the Product Owner with the backlog

The Product Owner is responsible for developing and maintaining the product backlog. The product backlog is a list of tasks that the team must complete. Using the information collected from the daily stand-up meetings, the Scrum Master assists the Product Owner in refining and maintaining the product backlog.

The product backlog is a living document that evolves in response to current status and development requirements. By scheduling meetings and writing user stories, the Scrum Master can help with the product backlog.

4.   Remove impediments

The Scrum Master searches for distractions and obstructions that can hinder progress to help the team stay focused on the tasks that must be completed during each iteration.

5.   Teaching Scrum practices and principles

A key Scrum Master’s purpose is to act as a consultant and instructor to efficiently recruit new employees and team members to guarantee that work does not slow down. As a dedicated Scrum Master, as a teacher, the Scrum manager supports new team members in understanding the scope and vision of a product, as well as ensuring that team members understand Scrum theory and follow Scrum practices and rules. The Scrum Master teaches the team how to manage themselves and stay focused.
